These loose leaves come in booklets of 25 individual leaves. Each leaf in the booklet is separated by sheets of rouge paper, but the leaf is not adhered to it, it just sits loosely between the pages.
This leaf is too heavy to pick up with a gilders tip, although it can be handled directly if done so delicately and with clean, grease-free fingers. You can pick up the leaf with your fingers, carefully picking each corner.
Loose leaf is suitable for most surfaces, but is usually used for more intricate and delicate work, ie. carved mouldings where transfer leaf is unsuitable. If you have a larger, flat area to cover then the Transfer leaf is recommended.
Imitation Gold Leaf must be adhered to surfaces using the appropriate size medium. See our Acrylic Size in the Polyvine category.
Any Imitation Gold Leaf will tarnish over time and will need to be protected by a clear varnish or lacquer.
Size: 14 x 14cm and approx 0.3 microns thick
Imitation gold leaf is a brass alloy where the mixture of zinc and copper has been specifically controlled to create tones that closely mimic genuine gold leaf. Also known as Dutch metal, composition metal or Schlag metal.
Imitation gold leaf is well suited for a variety of interior applications where cost may be a factor and is particularly good for use on gilding entire walls or ceilings.
